REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

Please look in the column on the left for your class listing, look to the column on the right for the times your child comes to rehearsals. Please have dancers attend all rehearsals. STAGE REHEARSALS ARE MANDATORY!!! Studio rehearsals are very close to mandatory. If necessary, you may need to rearrange other activities or carpool or ask a relative to drive your dancer to these important rehearsals. We only have one recital per year and we want it to be the best it can be. Help your child and her/his class do their best by not missing these important rehearsals. For studio rehearsals, please do not stay as there will be too many people to accommodate. A parent/guardian SHOULD attend stage rehearsals with children as we will not be watching them the entire time they are there.

As per your contract at the beginning of the year, each weekly class has received at least 31 lessons, plus at least one studio and stage rehearsal or additional rehearsals have been added.

BEGINNING MON., MAY 9, THERE WILL BE NO MORE REGULAR CLASSES.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION

*THERE IS NO DRESS REHEARSAL. Do not wear costumes to rehearsals, just dancewear.
*Stage rehearsals are a MUST for attendance! Every student must attend these rehearsals if our recital is to be a success. If there is a problem with this, you need to talk to Mrs. Tracy ASAP.
*Children should have a parent or guardian with them at stage rehearsals. We will not be able to watch them at all times.
*You may want to bring snacks to the stage rehearsals for older children who will be there a while, but you must not eat or drink in the auditorium (lobby or backstage is fine). There will be a concession stand at the recital. DO NOT LET CHILDREN EAT IN COSTUME – COVER IT UP OR CHANGE.
*Bring a jacket, sweater or blanket to rehearsal. The auditorium may be cold when it is not filled up.
*No one will be allowed in the balconies during rehearsals for safety reasons.
*Do not let your child go to the bathroom alone. Anyone could be there when it is unlocked to the public.
DIRECTIONS TO THE CANNON CENTER:(from Bartlett) Take I-40 toward Memphis. Go straight and follow Sam Cooper when I-40/240 veers off. Turn Right on East Parkway at the end of Sam Cooper. Turn Left on North Parkway. Turn Left on Front Street. Turn into the parking garage on the left at the near corner of the Cook Convention Center building.
OR Take I-40 and follow through 240 juncture going toward Little Rock. Take Exit 1A at 2nd/3rd street. It will place you on 2nd street. Turn Right on Poplar, Right on Front St and the parking garage will be on the far corner of the building.
Once in the garage, go to opposite end of garage. Enter thru the South Exhibit Hall. Go to the left and you’ll see escalators. Go up escalators, go straight down hall to end. Go right at end of large hallway (corner of Main & Poplar). You’ll be in the lobby of the Cannon Center. (Handicap access: as entering South Exhibit Hall the Elevators are to right)

MORE RECITAL INFO

YOUNG CLASSES, KIDS HOP and HIP HOP (those with only 1 or 2 dances): Children should be dressed for their first routine and in their dressing room 6 dances before theirs (if yours is within the first 6 dances of the show, be in dressing room and ready 15 minutes before show). The line up moms will get them in order and on stage for their first dance. Only Line Up moms may come to the stage area. After they perform, mothers should quickly go to dressing rooms to change them then cover up to go watch in the audience. Return to the dressing room 6 dances before your next dance (if it is within 6 of the Peter Pan Ballet, we will tell you during stage rehearsals at what point you need to return). Don’t hang around too long, as your child needs time to adjust to being away from her parents before dancing. You may pick up your child after her second number and take her to the audience (with a cover-up over her costume ). Return to the dressing room 6 dances before the end of the show (in costume). Line up moms will bring them to the stage for the finale. If their second dance is near the end of the show, we may keep them backstage for the finale. This will be announced at the stage rehearsals. After the finale, come get your child from the stage. Preschool children will be given a nametag at the stage rehearsal. Please bring it to the recital to aid the line up moms. Don’t wear the nametag. Boys should meet their class outside the girls dressing room 5 dances early.

SEATING ARRANGEMENTS: Please do not walk around in the auditorium during a dance. Move between dances. The dancers as well as the audience should be respected at the theatre. This is part of what I try to teach the children. Do not let children (including nondancers) sit in the aisles. It distracts the dancers and more importantly is a fire hazard. Please watch children closely if you go into the balcony. Please be considerate of our video company and stay away from their cameras. There will be a few reserved seats for the room mothers on the front row. Please do not sit there unless you are a room mother and you are watching your class dance.

BACKSTAGE: You may not use the doors at the foot of the stage to get to the dressing rooms. You will need to use the back doors to exit the auditorium and walk around to the dressing rooms. We don’t want people walking in front of the audience constantly. We will show you this route at the stage rehearsals. Room mothers will be using the front doors only. For the show, dressing areas (women only will be allowed in the girls dressing rooms and only men in the boys dressing rooms) will be assigned and doors marked (feel free to take your child’s “star” after the show). Please don’t bring visitors or siblings to the dressing rooms. Do not dress or apply make-up in the theatre or bathrooms.

VIDEO TAPING OF RECITAL: We will have a professional production company taping our recital. To order a video, please fill out form in the recital folder and return to studio or video table at the recital. If you video with your own camera, you MUST use a battery and not plug into an outlet. You must stand against the side walls or sit in your seat to video tape (no tripods). You may not stand up in the seats or aisles as it blocks other parents from seeing and is a fire hazard. I highly recommend you buy a video as the company does a good job. I have heard it makes great entertainment for the kids all summer. You will pick up your videos at the studio this summer. Give it 4-6 weeks then call us and we will leave expected date on the answering machine. Feel free to take snapshots (again from your seat or the side walls). Remember the video is of the entire show and not highlighting your child so if you want close ups, bring your own camera.

ACCESSORIES AND DETAILS:
*DO NOT WEAR PANTIES UNDER COSTUMES. (tights ARE your underwear) (Boys should wear tight briefs)(girls who need one should wear a bra.. Pin straps under costume so they won’t show or wear clear straps).
*All shoes should be white unless otherwise specified (Pre-Company and Company dancers, Hip Hop classes and boys). If your child’s shoes are the wrong color she will not be allowed on stage (ask me how to spray paint them). Your child’s ballet shoes should have plain elastic only (no decorations) sewn on them. Your girl’s tap shoes should have plain white elastic to hold them on. No ribbons, plastic buttons, or decorations (boys have laces). (Remember all shoe requirements were made known upon registration).
*Fasten all headpieces securely with bobbi pins (remember they’ll be jumping around).
*ALL FEMALE STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR DARK MAKE-UP AND RED LIPSTICK. (The stage lights wash them out and you cannot see their features. We are not trying to make them little grown ups)(youngest children are fine with lipstick, blush, and a touch of eye shadow, as they get older add mascara and eyeliner) (PreCompany and Company should follow required makeup application as shown on our YouTube video).
*Cover costumes with a robe, jacket or big button front shirt. Do not go into audience in costume.
*DO NOT WAVE AT YOUR CHILD WHILE SHE/HE IS PERFORMING.

Helpful hints: *Bring bobbi pins, needle, thread, scissors, safety pins, extra tights, hairspray, lipstick and other makeup for freshen up, your costume lists, your program marked with your child’s dances and when to come backstage, any special recital gift you may want to give your child afterwards (there will not be a time on stage to do this, however)
*To clean dance shoes, use rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball or a baby wipe
*Make the recital a very special time for your child. It is a big deal to work for a year for one day and get in front of lots of people to perform. Do not mention being nervous unless your child does. If she does, encourage her to be brave and reassure her that she will do well and it will turn out to be fun.
If you have any questions, ask your child’s teacher before or after class or call. At rehearsals, ask our teenage assistants and if they do not know they will ask me. I will periodically answer several questions at a time during the rehearsals.
